Calming the Storm: Collecting Bible Verses about Not Worrying
Los Angeles Christian Counseling
So, how do you move past the anxiety to find God’s peace amid worry and fear? First, we must understand the psychology of fear and then prepare ourselves for battle by collecting Bible verses about not worrying. Not only will we need to gather our weapons from the word of God – we will need to live them by making each verse personal.
Why Do We Feel Fear?
God gave us the ability to feel fear to keep us safe from predators. However, throughout time, the fear response has been less needed for the threat of hungry lions and more for fear of unemployment, anxiety from financial losses, and worries about our children.
The amygdala is the part of the brain responsible for fear and the fight or flight response. The chemical response affects the body’s other systems creating physiological and emotional reactions. Adrenaline and other chemicals and hormones begin to cascade throughout the body, increasing the heart rate. A terrified or stressed person may feel sweaty, dizzy, nauseous, and “on edge.”
After removing the source of the anxiety, a person may still feel anxious and fearful. Their thoughts may wander to imaginary future events or what they should have said or done in the past. Neither scenario is healthy.
Allowing the mind to play with negative thoughts can influence mood and emotions (such as depression) and incite an adverse reaction (like physical confrontations, overdrinking alcohol, or abusing drugs). These pervasive thoughts can develop into deep-seated beliefs that are hard to destroy without professional help.
It is human to feel fear and anxiety. However, you do not have to live in a state of worry. In some cases, there is a need for psychological help to aid a person in moving on from trauma or a mental disorder behind the anxiety. This is where faith-based therapy and God’s word can work together to promote healing. By finding verses in the Bible with affirmations, you can begin to replace some of those thoughts with powerful, life-changing truths.
For example, Psalms 94:19 states, “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” Does this verse speak to you? You can reword the verse into a promise: No matter how high my anxiety level is, my God is always with me, and He provides comfort to the depths of my soul.

Old Testament Truths
The Old Testament verses on anxiety, worry, and fear can be thought of as a foundation, picturing God’s strength enveloping you during this season of your life. The following are some verses and affirmations based on God’s promises you can write (or print) out to hang in your home or take with you on the go. These are from the New King James Version.
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH the Lord, is everlasting strength. – Isaiah 26:3-4
I can rely on God for peace and strength through the tough times as long as I abide in Him and His Son, Jesus.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
God is always with me, so I have nothing to fear. He stands beside me, behind me, and in front of me. He holds me up above the anxieties and worries of this world. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established; He will not be afraid until he sees his desire upon his enemies. – Psalm 112:7-8
God fights my battles for me. I can trust in Him to come to my aid with both external and internal struggles.
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. – Psalm 32:7
God is my refuge. I can run to Him for protection in times of trouble, and He will see me through.
Consider studying the book of Psalms in the Old Testament. Both Psalms 23 and 91 offer insight into God’s love and protection for His chosen people (and, yes, that means you!).
New Testament Truths
The New Testament introduces Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the foundation of the church. As you meditate on these scriptures and affirmations, remember that the church is not a building – it is you. Everything about you is worthy to God, and He yearns to fill your heart and mind with peace during uncontrollable troubles.
But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? – Luke 12:20-28
I do not need to worry. God promises to provide for me daily as He knows my need and is in control of everything. My problems are not bigger than my God. He cares for me more than the colorful birds and His other unique creations.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:27
I understand that the Lord’s peace is beyond the world’s comprehension, but it is only through His peace that I can get through the day with joy in my heart.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ. – Philippians 4:6-7
Releasing my worries to God releases the bonds of anxiety and fear. He is more than capable of handling my most challenging problems.
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:7
I am important, loved, and favored by God. He cares for me and has plans for my life.
There are many more Bible verses about not worrying to be found throughout the Scriptures. Try to spend a few minutes every week adding to your collection and writing out your affirmations based on His promises.
